What Does Freedom Mean to Me?

What does freedom mean to you?

🌸 A Mother’s Day Reflection on a Different Kind of Liberation

Freedom, to me, isn’t just about wide open spaces or passports or choices unchecked. It’s softer than that. Quieter. Sometimes, freedom looks like being able to say no without guilt—or yes without fear. Sometimes, it’s the courage to rest without apology. Or to ask for help, and receive it.

This Mother’s Day, I’ve been thinking about the women—especially mothers—who carry the world on their shoulders without ever putting down their own bags. Who keep giving and giving until there’s barely anything left. For them, freedom might mean a moment of stillness. A hot cup of coffee they don’t have to reheat three times. An uninterrupted thought. A day where they get to be the one cared for.

Freedom means shifting out of survival mode and into something softer, more sustainable. It means creating space for joy, even in the midst of responsibility. It’s giving yourself permission to mother yourself—with gentleness, compassion, and grace.

So today, freedom means not just breaking out of something, but stepping fully into something better: peace, presence, and permission to simply be.

And for every mother who’s ever given everything—this Mother’s Day, I hope you taste a little bit of that freedom, too.
